Storybook Family

Photo & data deletion

Deletion here is automatic and on a schedule enforced by an hourly cleanup job — you never need to file a request.

Storybook Family is a preview product. Orders are $0 test previews — no payment is taken and nothing ships. This page describes what the product actually does; it is a transparency notice, not legal advice.

Deleting the photo yourself

While a book is still editable (before generation locks it), the photo can be removed or replaced at any time. Removing it deletes the stored file immediately and revokes the recorded consent. Replacing it deletes the previous photo's stored file immediately as well.

Automatic timelines

WhatWhen it is deleted
Photo upload that fails partwayCleaned up within 15 minutes
Uploaded photo after generation endsDeleted within 24 hours, whether generation succeeded or failed
Uploaded photo, no matter whatDeleted within 7 days of upload — even if you never generate
AI reference images and rejected illustration draftsDeleted on the same schedule as the photo
Book without an order (images, story text, records)Deleted 30 days after creation
Book with a $0 test orderDeleted after 180 days
Share linkExpires after 30 days, when the book is deleted, or when you turn it off — whichever comes first
Guest sessionExpires after 30 days; expired sessions are purged
Order-lookup accessExpires after 24 hours per lookup

A cleanup job runs every hour. When a deadline passes, the stored files are removed from storage first, then the database records are erased.

What book deletion covers

When a book reaches its deadline, deletion cascades:

  • Every stored image for the book — cover, page illustrations, any remaining photo, AI reference images, and rejected drafts.
  • The book record, its story text, and all revision history.
  • Order records and order-lookup sessions tied to the book.
  • The child record, once no other book references it, and the household record once no books, orders, or active sessions remain. At that point nothing about you is left.

What is kept, and how

Until those deadlines, records live in a Cloudflare D1 database and a private Cloudflare R2 bucket. Names, favorite things, dedications, moment descriptions, story text, and order emails are encrypted at rest; session tokens and query passwords are stored only as hashes. Details are in the privacy policy.
